Celebrating 40 Years of the David Foster Foundation
This past weekend, Victoria became the backdrop for one of those moments as the David Foster Foundation celebrated 40 years of changing lives. For a few unforgettable days, our city came alive with music, generosity, friendship and a shared sense of purpose, all in support of Canadian families whose children are facing the extraordinary challenge of a life-saving organ transplant.
And what a celebration it was. From unforgettable performances to meaningful moments shared around the city, the week brought together an extraordinary community of artists, families, supporters, volunteers and philanthropists. At the heart of it all was a simple but powerful belief: that no family should have to face this journey alone. By the end of the of the unforgettable experience an extraordinary $14.5 million had been raised to support families across Canada. It is difficult to put a number like that into perspective. Behind it are families given hope, children given a chance at a healthier future, and moments that will stay with them for a lifetime.
40 Years of Hope
The David Foster Foundation has been there for families at some of the most difficult moments of their lives over four decades.
An organ transplant is more than a medical journey. It is a journey that touches every part of a family’s life, emotionally, financially, and practically. The Foundation’s work helps ease that burden, providing support when families need it most and reminding them that they are not alone. But perhaps the most meaningful way to measure this legacy is not in years, or even dollars raised. It is in the lives changed along the way. The families who found support when they needed it. The children who were given another opportunity to grow, dream and thrive. The parents who were able to focus on what mattered most.
A Longstanding Connection
For GAIN Group, this once-in-a-lifetime weekend carried an especially personal significance. Together with our sister group, AWIN Group of Dealerships, we have had the privilege of standing alongside the David Foster Foundation for more than 25 years. A quarter of a century is a remarkable amount of time. It means we have had the opportunity to witness the Foundation’s impact grow, to meet some of the incredible families whose lives have been touched by its work, and to see what can happen when a community chooses to come together for something greater than itself.
We are incredibly proud of that longstanding relationship. And while our contribution is only one small part of a much bigger story, it is a privilege to be part of something that has made such a profound difference for families here on Vancouver Island and across Canada.
A City United by Something Bigger
Our city has always had a remarkable ability to bring people together, but this week felt different. There was a sense of generosity in the air, a feeling that everyone gathered was contributing to something meaningful. Music filled the city. Conversations turned to the families at the heart of the Foundation’s work. Old friendships were celebrated and new ones were formed. And throughout it all, there was a shared understanding that the true significance of the week extended far beyond the celebrations themselves. Every donation. Every performance. Every volunteer hour. Every conversation. Every act of generosity. Together, they become something much greater.
They become hope.
A Celebration to Remember
We are grateful to everyone who helped make this incredible milestone experience possible, the artists who gave their time and talent, the volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, the donors and sponsors who continue to believe in the Foundation’s mission, and, most importantly, the families whose courage and resilience remind us why this work matters.
And to David Foster and Michael Ravenhill, congratulations on 40 years of an extraordinary vision brought to life. What began four decades ago has become a legacy of compassion, generosity and hope that reaches families across the country.
