Celebrating the Canadian Forces Snowbirds
For 55 years, the Canadian Forces Snowbirds have filled Canadian skies with moments of precision, pride and inspiration.
On Tuesday, August 4, Victoria had the privilege of witnessing one of those moments for the final time.
Against the backdrop of the Dallas Road waterfront, the Snowbirds took to the skies for their final Vancouver Island performance in the iconic CT-114 Tutor. It was a farewell to an aircraft, a team and a remarkable chapter in Canadian aviation history.
A Legacy in the Skies
Over five decades the Snowbirds have represented the very best of Canadian teamwork, discipline and excellence. Their performances are a testament to the skill and dedication of every person who has been part of the team, both in the air and on the ground.
The CT-114 Tutor has been at the heart of that story since the Snowbirds’ formation in 1971. Its distinctive silhouette has become synonymous with the team, making its final flight over Vancouver Island all the more meaningful.
What we witnessed on Tuesday was more than an aerial demonstration. It was the closing of a chapter that has inspired generations of Canadians.
A Moment to Remember
Families, friends and neighbours gathered along Dallas Road, eyes turned toward the sky, waiting for the unmistakable sight of the Snowbirds. Then they arrived, nine iconic Tutors moving together with the precision and grace that have defined years of Canadian aviation history.
There was something especially extraordinary about watching this final performance here in Victoria. For generations, the Snowbirds have been a familiar and inspiring presence in communities across the country. Their performances have brought people together, sparked a sense of wonder and created memories that endure long after the aircraft team disappears over the horizon.
Tuesday was no different. Except this time, we knew it was the last.
